Did Mike just say he was back? YESSSSSSSSS! ;)

I’m delighted to say that as of today, I’m back running my marketing consultancy, known to the millions(!) as Velocity Digital. You may be thinking ‘did it ever go away?’ and you’re most likely pondering ‘why did it stop?’. Let me answer that one…

2016 was a year of learning

In December 2015, I joined edtech startup, Administrate as Marketing Director. It was a brilliant opportunity and the challenge of leading a high-growth tech startup’s marketing efforts was one that hugely appealed. It was a brilliant experience, and working with the whole team was one of the best periods in my career to date. I learned a lot about SaaS (Software as a Service), marketing B2B software and the work that needs to go into creating a valuable product.

I learned more about myself though

I really started to miss consultancy. I’m what you’d class as a ‘people person’ and one of the areas of running Velocity that always gave me the most satisfaction was getting to know the people behind the businesses I worked with, the problems they needed solved and then working together to push things forward. You don’t get that in a software environment. The time had come to be truly honest with myself and my colleagues and make the decision to move on, and that’s exactly what I did. Administrate is a superb organisation full of mega-talented people and the only way, is very clearly is up for them!

Home again

Now I’m looking ahead to 2017 with huge excitement! I know this is what I’m meant to do and being away from it for (close to) a year has reinforced that. I learned so much from the prior version of Velocity and from the past year and can honestly say, I’m a far more rounded marketer and person, which can only benefit future clients.

I’ll leave it at that for now, thanks for reading! Find out more about my work with Velocity here.
